The fall is a time when homeowners arrange to have regular maintenance done for their heating systems to make sure they are prepared to handle the rigors of winter. But fall maintenance isn’t only for furnaces. There are parts of a home’s plumbing that require yearly maintenance as well—most vitally, the water heater.
If you haven’t scheduled annual inspections and tune-ups for your water heater, now is the time to get started! Call our offices and arrange for a maintenance visit from one of our water heater experts. We work with storage tank, heat pump, and tankless water heater models.
The Reasons Maintenance Is Important for Your Water Heater
Water is one of the most destructive forces in nature: just consider what it does to metal when in contact with it. Your water heater needs regular services to clean, adjust, and check it to reduce the natural effects of water.
For example, if you have a storage tank water heater (the most common kind), it must have its anode rod inspected annually to make sure that it is still capable of doing its job of keeping corrosion away from the metal of the tank. When this rod corrodes all the way through—as will eventually happen—the rest of the water heater will also begin to corrode. A maintenance technician will catch this in time and replace the anode rod.
Sediment from the water can also create problems for a water heater if it is permitted to develop over time. Regular tank flushings or cleanings can eliminate this trouble.
Since most water heaters run on gas power, maintenance is important to see that the burner and ignition are working as they should. This not only ensures that the system works at peak condition and doesn’t start to elevate your utility bills, but it keeps your home and family safer.
